The French far-right leader Marine Le Pen’s 2027 presidential bid was hanging in the balance on Tuesday as she was sentenced to wear an electronic ankle tag after being found guilty of embezzling European parliament funds.

The Paris court of appeal upheld Le Pen’s ⁠conviction ⁠ but shortened her ban ⁠on running for elected office, potentially reopening a narrow path for the far-right ​leader ‌to stand ‌in the 2027 presidential race.
